The Yacht Club of Poland is one of the most prestigious yacht clubs in Poland.〔 * Czajewski Jacek (ed.), Encyclopedia of Sailing, OWN, Warsaw 1996, pp 446, ISBN 83-01-11914-4 (en)〕 It has branches worldwide in Poland, Europe, and North America. Member yachts are permitted to fly the own ensign of the Polish Navy rather than the merchant flag flown by the majority of other Polish registered vessels. ==History== The Association was founded December 10, 1924 under the name Polish Yacht Club (from 1925 Yacht Club of Poland) as a nationwide organization with the right to create branches. The action began with the sailors in Warsaw under the chairmanship of Antoni Aleksandrowicz. Branches were created including in Warsaw, Gdynia, and other cities. One of the founders and first commandant was Mariusz Zaruski. YKP has its own flag with proportions and color like the Polish flag. In the upper left corner is the YKP logo, i.e. an oblique cross (cross of St. Andrew), red with white and blue finish with expanded ends. The flag was introduced by Ordinance of the Minister of Internal Affairs on 15 August 1927, and raised for the first time at a marina club in Warsaw.
